The invention relates to a stabilising base for identical articles which are arranged substantially in layers one above the other, are grouped together to form a packaging unit, and have a smaller and a larger cross-section. The stabilising base consists of at least one perforated area which has a multiplicity of holes whose dimensions are equal to or slightly larger than the smaller cross-section of the articles. The diagonal spacing between the holes is slightly larger than the larger cross-section of the article.
