In the case of firearms having a single-stage hair trigger, the handling safety is increased by the use of an electrical or electronic protection trigger having a hysteresis characteristic, in that the weapon does not intrinsically revert to being ready for firing once a shot has been triggered but is made ready for firing by the gunner immediately before triggering the protection. Restraining forces can thus not lead to inadvertent triggering of a shot. A spring, which additionally acts in the shot-triggering direction, engages on the trigger element. <IMAGE>
