A sofa which can be converted into a bed has a seat cushion (1) and a back cushion (2), it being possible for a pull-out mechanism (4, 5) with a covering panel (7) to be pushed in below the seat cushion (1). A first supplementary cushion (10) is mounted pivotably on the panel (7) via a hinge (8). Provided on a second supplementary cushion (11) are pivoting arms (20) by means of which the supplementary cushion is connected pivotably to the pull-out mechanism. If the furniture is to serve as a bed, after the first supplementary cushion (10) has been pivoted, the second supplementary cushion (11) is raised and placed on the hinge (8). When the pull-out mechanism (4, 5) has been pushed back until the supplementary cushion (11) rests against the seat cushion (1), there is a continuous lying surface available. If the supplementary cushion (11) is not lifted out and the pull-out mechanism is pushed back until the supplementary cushion (10) rests against the seat cushion (1), a lying position is produced, for example for watching television. <IMAGE>
