Partitions consisting of a multiplicity of panel-type wall elements (20), which are arranged so as to be displaceable via castors (27) on a ceiling rail, have an upper sealing strip (22) and a lower sealing strip (23) for the sealing termination of the wall elements (20), when the partition is closed, against a floor and a ceiling of the room to be divided. An appropriate actuating mechanism (32) is arranged inside the wall element (20) to extend the sealing strips (22, 23). In order to be able to service or, if required, repair the actuating mechanism (32), it has to be removable from the wall element (20) without great effort. In order to guarantee this, despite the covering panels (30) of the wall element (20) being firmly glued to a central frame (31), as is customary for reasons of simple manufacture, the invention proposes that a cutout (36) be arranged in the frame (31), through which cutout the actuating mechanism (32) can be pulled out of the wall element (20) when it has been released from the sealing strips (22; 23). <IMAGE>
