A clamping device for sheets, especially for large sheets of paper, is to be so designed that sheets can be permanently fixed with one hand and easily detached, it being unnecessary to make any special demands in respect of the quality of the paper and possible to avoid the danger of the paper tearing loose, and increased storage costs. This object is achieved in that a U-shaped profile is used as a retaining profile (1), into the open side of which an edge of the baseplate (2) is inserted, and in that at least one spring element (4) is introduced under pressure between one leg (3) of the retaining profile (1) and the edge of the baseplate (2). <IMAGE>
