PURPOSE:To execute exactly read by inputting a pulse signal to an optical density detecting device from a roller for feeding a film, and reading a frame position and out of focus, in an automatic deciding device of a frame edge, out of focus, etc. of the film. CONSTITUTION:A negative film is drawn out of a roller 10, passed through an optical sensor part, placed between a driving roller 16 and a press roller 18, and wound around a reel 20. The film is fed out by driving to rotate the roller 16 by a pulse motor 50. Also, a pulse is sent to a pulse generator 24 from a rotating position of the press roller 18, and inputted to an interface 38 of a computer 36. Moreover, light is irradiated from a light source 28, transmitted through the film, photodetected by an optical sensor 26, and inputted to the interface 38. Subsequently, a frame edge and out of focus are read from the variation of an optical transmissivity distribution by the computer 36. Accordingly, the film is read by using a detecting pulse signal of film feed quantity as a timing signal, therefore, a frame position and a out of focus picture can be read by scarcely causing an error.
