<p>PURPOSE:To improve a picture quality by interpolating an interpolating picture element of picture element data between adjoining picture elements in accordance with a luminance level difference between adjoining picture elements of respective picture elements composing picture information. CONSTITUTION:When information of interpolating picture elements A-E is constituted from luminance information of picture elements 1-4 of a picture signal (a), a luminance level of interpolating, the luminance level of an interpolat ing picture element is determined from a differential value of a luminance of adjoining picture elements 1-4. A luminance of interpolating data of an interpolating picture element A is determined from a luminance of an adjoining differential value of picture elements 1 and 2. In the same manner, a luminance of interpolating data of an interpolating picture element B is determined from a luminance differential value of picture elements 1 and 3. By using such a processing, when the part of a skin of the face is expressed, it can be smooth and when a profile line of hair and a face is expressed, a profile can be empha sized.</p> |
