PURPOSE:To restrain the free movement of an optical fiber in a cable and to prevent the deterioration of the optical characteristic under extremely vibrating conditions by coupling elastically the optical fiber and the cable at prescribed points. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber 1 for a CO2 laser is inserted into a thin-walled metallic tube 2. A cable 3 constituted of a metal, etc. has flexibility and does not bend within certain curvature. The optical fibers 4, 5 for visible light in addition to the fiber 1 are incorporated in the cable 3. The inside of the cable 3 is further isolated from the outside so that the inside of the cable 3 acts as a flow route for an assist gas. Buffer materials 6 constituted of a foamed material, etc. are adhered to the prescribed points of the tube 2. The materials 6 have partially the outside diameter approximately equal to the inside diameter of the cable 3 to couple elastically the fiber 1 to the cable 3.
