FIBRE-OPTIC SENSOR FOR FORCE AND PRESSURE MEASUREMENTS, AS WELL AS FOR MONITORING AND PROTECTION PURPOSES

The sensor consists of an optical fibre into which is coupled light received from a photosensitive detector assigned to the optical fibre, the effect of force taking place perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the optical fibre, and the optical fibre being only infinitesimally deformed. The optical fibre is constructed as a monomode optical fibre (1, 1') on which a force or pressure acts, and the change in the state of polarisation of the optical fibre effected by the force or pressure is used for the purpose of evaluation.
