PURPOSE:To balance a pressure difference in refrigerant between the suction and delivery sides of a compressor immediately after stopping the same and permit to restart the compressor immediately by a method wherein a four-way valve or a valve which returns high-pressure refrigerant into low-pressure side is switched at a time when the sound of the refrigerant is reduced. CONSTITUTION:The sound of refrigerant is big in case the four-way valve is switched immediately after stopping the compressor 1 while it is reduced to an unconsious level C in case the same valve is switched after a time t1 upon room heating or after a time t2 upon room cooling. The switching times t1, t2 are shorter than the restarting time (about 3min) of the compressor 1 and it is about 1min during room heating or within 3min during room cooling. The fluctuation of room temperature with respect to a time is larger in case the compressor 1 is stopped during room heating under a large temperature difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures in general room cooling and heating, therefore, the time until the restarting is preferable to be short. Accordingly, the four-way valve 2 is switched at the time t1 after stopping the compressor 1 during room heating or the same valve 2 is switched at the time t2 after stopping the compressor during room cooling. According to this method, the switching may be effected under unconsious sound of refrigerant and the restarting of the compressor may be effected immediately after the pressure of delivery and suction sides of the compressor are balanced.
