PURPOSE:To uniform an electric field distribution, to increase light transmissivity, and to easily attain an increase in density by providing a common electrode and numbers of independent control electrodes which face it at both flanks formed in the light transmission direction of a base body. CONSTITUTION:When a specific voltage is applied between a wiring pattern 4 for control electrodes and a wiring pattern 5 for the common electrode of a substrate 6 for wiring, the base body 1 of an electrooptic material where a specific electric field is produced from the control electrodes 2 of the optical shutter element to the common electrode 3 has electrooptic effect. In this case, there is no electrode pattern provided on the base body 1 where light transmission is impeded, so the light transmissivity is increased. Further, a thin electrode pattern needs not be led around by long distance and the need to constitute the wiring substrate 6 by using the electrooptic material is eliminated to easily realize the shutter element which is arrayed to desired length. |
