PURPOSE:To improve running property, durability, etc. of a magnetic recording medium provided with a thin ferromagnetic film on a non-magnetic substrate by providing a top coat layer consisting of specific components on a surface of the thin film. CONSTITUTION:The top coat layer which consists of A. an oxidation inhibitor of a radiation curing type, B. a monomer of a radiation curing type or an oligomer of a radiation curing type (both having <=300mol.wt. for each one radiation sensitive double bond) and C. a lubricating agent and in which (a) A:B is 10:90- 90:10, (b) the coating amt. of A+B is 0.5-50mg/m<2> and (c) the coating amt. of C is 1-100% of A+B is provided on the surface of the thin ferromagnetic film. The ferromagnetic metal or ferromagnetic alloy used for the thin ferromagnetic film is exemplified by iron, cobalt, nickel and other ferromagnetic metals or magnetic alloys such as Fe-Co and Fe-Ni.
