A heating annulus is suspended from two cross pieces fixed to a beam. This heating annulus is made up of a number of heating modules mechanically connected to each other and each containing an electric heating resistance. The heating annulus is designed to be positioned at the inside of circular workpieces which are to be welded together in order to produce a homogeneous thermal flux for heating the lips which form the joint between the two circular workpieces. The homogeneous thermal flux is maintained by a regulating device connected to the heating modules.
