PURPOSE:To prevent breaking due to fragility and to facilitate manufacturing by joining a ceramic ring having a sliding surface and a metallic ring having a base and a fitting portion for detent. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic ring 21 substantially square in section and a metallic ring 22 having a substantially circular notch 22a at one place of the inner periphery as a fitting portion are joined by a binder 23 to form a seal ring 24. The seal ring 24 is fitted in a recessed portion 2a of a base 2, which is pressed down by a retainer ring 4 to form a mechanical seal. As detent is conducted at a portion of the metallic ring 22, only a little stress is applied uniformly to the whole of the ceramic ring 21 through a binder 23 not to cause stress concentration. |
