PURPOSE:To obtan a VTR capable of comparing a reproduced video signal with an input video signal as a series of standard video signals by supplying input video signals and providing a time base convertor circuit to match therir time bases to those of reproduced video signals and a switch for switching input signals from the reproduced video signal and the time base convertor circuit. CONSTITUTION:An input video signal time-base-converted by a time base convertor circuit 7 is supplied to one fixed contact (a) of a changeover switch S3. A traveling contact (c) of the changeover switch S3 is connected to an input terminal of an FM modulator 2. A vertical synchronizing signal of an input video signal and a color framing pulse from input terminals 8a and 8b are supplied to a counter 8a. When an input video signal is recorded, the traveling contact (c) of a changeover switch S4 is switched to the fixed contact (a) side. When the reproduced video signal reproduced by an input video signal from a stopped magnetic tape is switched in field units, compared and reproduced, the traveling contact (c) of the changeover switch S3 is switched to the fixed contact (a) side, and at the same time the traveling contact (c) of the changeover switch S4 is switched to a fixed contact (b) side.
