PURPOSE:To obtain the titled optical fiber having superior heat resistance and mechanical strength by coating an optical fiber with a reinforcing material produced by impregnating a group of continuous filaments with a curable composition consisting of a specified triacrylate, specified epoxy resin and a polymn. initiator and by curing the composition by heating. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber is coated with a reinforcing material produced by impregnating a group of continuous filaments (glass fibers) with a curable composition consisting essentially of the tri(meth)acrylate of trishydroxyalkyl cyanurate (a), modified phenol-novolak type epoxy resin (b) produced by introducing (meth)acryloyl groups into phenol-novolak type epoxy resin, and a polymn. initiator such as benzoyl peroxide, and the composition is cured by heating at about 80-250 deg.C for about 1-10min. The amount of the component (a) is about 20-90wt% of the total amount of the components (a), (b), and the amount of the polymn. initiator is about 0.1-5pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. components (a), (b). |
