PURPOSE:To produce L-phenylalanine economically on an industrial scale by a fermentation process, by culturing a specific microbial strain belonging to Escherichia genus. CONSTITUTION:A microbial strain belonging to Escherichia genus, requiring tyrosine and tryptophan, resistant to phenylalanine analogue, and capable of producing L-phenylalanine [e.g. Escherichia coil NK-83002 (FERM-P 7376), NK- 83003 (FERM-P 7377), etc.] is cultured in a medium preferably at 5-9pH and 25-37 deg.C for 2-5 days. The objective L-phenylalanine is separated from the cultured product e.g. by adsorption with carbon powder, treatment with ion exchange resin, etc. |
