PURPOSE:To apply tracking servo stably by providing a recording area of tracking information in a prescribed position of each track. CONSTITUTION:Tracks are formed helically on a magnetic tape with rotary heads 1a and 1b to record and reproduce information, and the area for recording tracking information is provided in a prescribed position of each track. Tracking information in the prescribed position is sampled at an information reproducing time to obtain a tracking error signal, and the running speed of the magnetic tape is controlled. The recording area of tracking information is provided in two positions which are a 1/4 of the track length distant from the start of each track and a 3/4 of the track length distant from the start of the track. Consequently, a pilot signal recorded on a part of the track is detected stably to obtain the tracking error signal, and tracking servo is applied stably. |
