PURPOSE:To increase the cycle life of a zinc electrode for an alkaline storage battery by using an indium-thallium-zinc alloy powder as an active material. CONSTITUTION:An indium-thallium-zinc alloy powder is used as an active material. For example, an indium-thallium-zinc alloy powder in which the particle diameter of the metallic zinc powder is restricted to 1-6mu and a zinc oxide powder with particle diameter of 0.1-0.5mu are used as zinc active materials. As a result, indium and thallium adhering to fine zinc particles to form an alloy effectively prevent the fine zinc particles from becoming larger, thereby suppressing the generation of dendrite, increasing the hydrogen overvoltage and suppressing the self discharge. Moreover, indium, thallium and zinc combine together to form a film alloy. Accordingly, there is no possibility that indium or thallium is detached from or separate from the fine zinc particles even during a prolonged period of charge-and-discharge cycles, thereby improving the cycle characteristic. |
