The present invention relates to, as new industrial products, (4-methyl-5-thiazolyl)alkanol derivatives corresponding to the general formula: <IMAGE> where R is H or CH3. These new products are useful in therapeutics, especially as anticonvulsive agents. They can be prepared by reduction of 5-acetyl-4-methylthiazole by means of a borohydride or of an organomagnesium compound CH3MgI. <IMAGE>
