The setting up of a data connection running parallel to an already existing telephone connection is performed by actuating a function key provided on the data terminal. Consequently, a control device located in the telephone set is activated by a special signal in order to call up the call number of the other subscriber involved in the telephone connection, which is in a memory in the telephone set. The call number of the other subscriber involved in the telephone connection, which is transmitted to the data terminal, is then used by the data terminal to set up automatically a direct additional data connection to an identical data terminal of the other subscriber.
