Process and apparatus for the automatic production of a shirt sleeve. A transporter 22 transports a sleeve blank in a first direction A and a hem is formed automatically along a first edge of the blank. The hem is pressed 33, and the blank is automatically lifted, folded about an axis perpendicular to A and then released onto a second transporter 74 which transports the blank in a second direction B perpendicular to A. A machine 77 automatically forms a seam of curved path along the second edge of the blank thus transported, in order to form a sleeve. The invention is used for the automatic production of a (short) sleeve for a shirt. <IMAGE>
