<p>EP--64487 A 1-(4-Hydroxyphenoxy) 3-(2-phenyl(oxy)ethylamino) 2-propanol derivs. of formula (I) and their salts are new. In (I) R3 is H or Me; m is 0 or 1; when m is 0, R4 and R5 are the same and are MeO, F, Br or Cl at the 2- and 6-positions; when m is 1, R4 is H and R5 is H, MeO, EtO, acetyl, Me, hydroxymethyl, CN, Cl, F, Br or OH. - (I) possess beta-adrenoceptor stimulating activity and have a positive inotropic action on the heart. They can be used to treat cardiac failure, (specifically ventricular myocardial failure). (I) are intended to improve symptoms and signs of cardiac failure such as dyspnea, cyanosis, pulmonary oedema, increased venous pressure, liver enlargement and peripheral oedema. - (I) can be used in combination with digitalis or diuretics, or other measures in treating cardiogenic shock.(I) can also ba used in the treatment of bradycardia i.e. conditions with slow heart rhythm where the weak positive chronotropic effect in combination with the positive inotropic effect of (I) can be expected to be of therapeutic value. - (I) have stimulating effects on the heart related to those of the endogenous catecholamines and isoprenaline but are devoid of their vascular effects.</p> |
