NEW MATERIAL:An imidazolidin-2-one derivative shown by the formula I (>A is >C-NH, >CH-NH2; X is H, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, or haloalkyl; n is 1-3). EXAMPLE:5-Imino-3-methyl-1-phenylimidazolidin-2-one. USE:Useful as a herbicide. Since the titled compound shows strongly herbicidal effect on weeds such as false daisy, green amaranth, indian jointvetch, water foxtail, polygonaceous weeds, mugwort, Echinochloa crus-galli, etc., it is used in production of farm products such as mandarin, apple, soybean, maiz, mulberry, tea, etc. which are damaged by these weeds. PREPARATION:1mol N-methylaminoacetonitrile shown by the formula II is reacted with preferably 0.9-1.2mol phenyl isocyanate shown by the formula III, to give a compound shown by the formula I .
