The invention relates to plasmid vectors containing an intact and active indicator gene at whose 3' end there is a multifunctional cloning region in which foreign DNA can be inserted while retaining the indicator function of the gene product, and to a method for the identification of genes coding for proteins, in which these plasmid vectors are used.
