The invention relates to a method of producing platens for typewriters and similar machines and, in particular, provides for the platen core to consist of a solid plastic material in which the platen axle parts or an integral platen axle are anchored in prepared recesses. After mounting of the platen covering and a subsequent grinding operation, the platen is ready for installation. The individual process stages can be carried out in corresponding automatic machinery. According to a preferred anchoring method for the platen axle or axle parts, ultrasound is used.
