Temperature monitors (1) limit the temperature of electrical apparatuses by automatically opening the circuit, and are not intended to reset themselves again until a significant temperature change has occurred. In this case, if a load (9) overheats, the contact (5') which is mounted on the bimetallic strip (5) lifts off the mating contact (4) into an open position, as a result of which the current flow through the contact arrangement is interrupted. In the event of defect sources not being rectified, frequent switching, so-called "controller chattering" results in the risk of the contacts of the temperature monitor welding. In order to prevent switching on again, it is thus provided that the contact arrangement be bridged by the PTC thermistor (6) when it is in the open position. The open position is maintained until the load (9) is disconnected by hand. <IMAGE>
