Bleach and bleach-containing detergent with a content of peroxy compounds and, where appropriate, bleach activators contain, to enhance the bleach effect and for simultaneous stabilisation of the bleach component, 0.1 to 5% by weight of a polyphosphonic acid or its water-soluble salts of the following formula <IMAGE> in which R is a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl radical or an n-propyl radical and X is hydrogen, sodium or potassium or an organic ammonium compound.
