PURPOSE:To record and reproduce a character broadcasting signal by detecting the vertical synchronizing signal in a composite video signal, and recording or reproducing only a luminance signal in the specific section in a vertical blanking period based upon the detected signal information. CONSTITUTION:A recording system is provided with switches SW1-SW5 so that an LPF2 is switched to an LPF3 with a high cutoff frequency, an HPF5 is placed in a through state, and a low frequency color signal CLOW is not sent to a mixer 6. A VH detecting circuit 12 detects a vertical and a horizontal pulse and a control circuit 13 outputs a control signal according to the information to turn SW1, SW3, and SW5 on and SW2 and SW4 off in a section wherein the band of a luminance signal Y is expanded. A reproduction side, on the other hand, has SW6-SW10 which places an HPF17 in a through state, switch an LPF19 to an LPF20 with a high cutoff frequency, and cutting off the signal CLOW to a mixer 21. Then, the SW7 and SW9 are turned on in a section wherein the band of the signal Y is expanded. |
