A replaceable filter element (4), especially for filtering soot particles from diesel engine exhaust gases, comprises a number of cylindrical, concentrically arranged, metal perforated strainers, through which the exhaust gases to be purified flow from the inside outwards, the soot particles being deposited on the insides of the perforated strainer.
