The method is for obviating spinal damage due to incorrect height of a work surface, and involves information as to the theoretical height fed to a computer connected to the surface. The computer compares the actual height value with that theoretical, determines a possible corrective direction, causing a drive mechanism to effect a height alteration where necessary. - When the theoretical and actual height values coincide, the drive cuts out, and the computer returns to a status for feeding in a new theoretical value. The work surface comprises a table with legs whose length can be individually or simultaneously varied through turning a shaft, whose rotation is controlled by the min-computer.
