The invention relates to a process for the production of insulation layers based on glass and mica for cables and wires and has the object of designing a process of this type in particular so that a continuous procedure is possible, even for the production of high temperature-resistant layers. The invention proposes that glass and mica powders are sintered together, that the powdered sintered product is electrophoretically deposited on the metallic conductor and subsequently sintered, and that a layer of mica and silicone rubber is applied electrophoretically to the glass/mica layer and subsequently cured.
