With the crankshaft of a reciprocating-piston internal combustion engine, where rotary and bending vibrations are damped by securing a counterweight elastically on a crank web in order to compensate inertia forces by forming a gap, the splash oil present in the crankcase is used as damping means. Collecting devices collect the splash oil, which, under the action of the centrifugal force, is forced into the gap between those parts of the crank web and the counterweight which are capable of moving relative to one another.
