In intake and exhaust valves for internal combustion engines, radial holes (3) are provided in the valve seat (1). When the valve is closed, these holes are closed, while, when the valve is open, additional gas can be introduced in a directional manner into the intake air of the internal combustion engine through these holes (3). The valve seat (1) can also have holes (5) in the case of the exhaust valve. The purpose of the holes is to introduce through the valve seat additional gases into the exhaust gases leaving the combustion chamber through the valve. The additional gases fed in are intended, in particular, to produce post-oxidation of the exhaust gases. <IMAGE>
