PURPOSE:To make a job such as painting regular and efficient by keeping a constant space between a working bench and an operating surface and automatically shifting them at an instructed speed. CONSTITUTION:A control means 20 is equipped with a reference position command section 21 to place a gondola 7 at a reference position 16 on an operating surface 14 where painting job starts and a shift command section 22 to command either upward or downward automatic shift of the gondola and its speed. A shift speed retaining means 31 has a speed sensor 32 to detect a speed and a speed operation and processing section 38 to electrorically input an opening value of a flow control valve 58 in response to a signal from the sensor 32 and a shift speed commanded by the shift command section 22. A space retaining means 40 is provided with a distance sensor 41 to detect an interval L between the gondola 7 and the operating surface 14 and a distance operation and processing section 42 which inputs an opening value of a flow control valve 59 in an oil hydraulic circuit 55 in response to a signal from the sensor 41.
