PURPOSE:To prevent any macroscopic one side abutment and to improve the performance of a clutch and a brake by using as a counterpart plate, a clad steel plate sandwiching a soft layer at the middle in the thickness direction. CONSTITUTION:A counterpart plate 2 for a friction plate sandwiches a soft layer 4 between two steel plates 3. The soft layer 4 is made of such a material that its modulus elasticity is lower than that of friction members 5 which are bonded to the friction plate 1 at both sides. The counterpart plate 2 and the friction plate 1, if used together, may give reduced macroscopic one side loads on each other and therefore give uniform contact throughout their abutment. Accordingly, even if such a friction member, as having high fatigue strength and insufficient energy absorbing ability, is used for this purpose, it may possess high performance. |
