A tank (1) is provided with a control device (10) for triggering control and/or switching operations as a function of the water level. The currentless control device (10) has a float (11) whose lifting movement effects the opening of a valve (13) in a water pipe (15). A measuring water pipe (20) which branches off from this water pipe (5) downstream of the valve (13) opens into a measuring container (16). Means (15, 17, 19, 23, 27) are provided in order to reclose the valve (13) given a specific filling level of the measuring container (16). The control device is used, in particular, for the automatic operation of a flushing dump in the rainwater or settling tank. The flushing of the tank can thus be triggered without electrical energy, and this is particularly advantageous in rural areas. <IMAGE>
