<p>Equipment for recovering silica sand from sand and gravel wash waters includes a hydrocone having a bottom outlet for solids of about 40% water content and a top outlet for overflow water. A belt conveyor, of concave cross-section, is positioned with one end below the bottom outlet of the hydrocone and has a first region which is horizontal or slightly inclined towards a depression zone, followed by an end region which slopes upwards. The belt is agitated in the first region and a removal device, positioned at the junction of the depression zone and the end region, removes water which accumulates in the depression zone. The equipment allows recovery of silica sand of 20-400 microns size and 20-25% moisture content, which is easily handled by conventional handling devices.</p> |
