In a method for producing a regenerable electrical film capacitor, metal layers and dielectric layers are arranged alternately one on top of the other on an insulating backing material. The metal layers of one polarity project beyond the dielectric layers on one side and those of the other polarity on the other side. The dielectric layers are produced by means of glow-discharge polymerisation. In the contact zone, the metal layers are heated at one or more points, which are limited in area, by one or more brief heat pulses, for example by a laser beam, up to the melting point of the metal or its vicinity.
