PURPOSE:To measure the absolute value of an outer diameter of yarn and to make possible highly accurate inspection having high resolving power, by projecting an outer diameter of the yarn to the surface of an image pickup element and transferring directly its dimension into a digital signal. CONSTITUTION:A protuberant abnormal part of a yarn 1 is obtained a signal in proportion to an outer diameter of the abnormal part from an output terminal 15 of an outer diameter detector 14 at the time of passing through light flux 17 and numbers of output pulses of the detector 14 and of a traveling detector 7 are compared by a comparator and the outer diameter and length of the abnormal part is evaluated. When the pulse of the detector 14 is exceeded compared with a set point of an outer diameter comparator 18, an outer diameter comparison signal is given by the comparator 18 and a constant time continuing signal is given to the output side of an outer diameter signal waveform shaping circuit 20 and then, a gate signal is given to one terminal of the output of a logical operation circuit 21. A traveling pulse corresponding to traveling length of the yarn is inputted from a detector 7 into another terminal of the circuit 21. Accordingly, when the output pulse of the circuit 21 is exceeded compared with the set point of a traveling comparator 22, a traveling comparison signal is generated by the comparator 22 and a disconnecter 25 is operated by a switch circuit 24. |
