PURPOSE:To prepare an epoxide by treating a specific olefin with microorganism belonging to Nocardia genus. CONSTITUTION:A microbial strain belonging to Nocardia genus and capable of producing epoxide, e.g. Nocardia corallina (FERM-P No.4096), is inoculated in a medium containing the olefin of formulaI(X1, X2 and X3 are H, methyl, or ethyl, provided that at least one of X1-X3 is methyl or ethyl; Y is 1-17C n- alkyl or isoalkyl), and cultured under aerobic conditions at 5-9 pH and 20- 50 deg.C, or the olefin of formulaIis brought into contact with the proliferated cells of the above microorganism, and the produced epoxide of formula II is separated. |
