In order to dissipate overvoltages, which can occur in the electrified rails of tram systems, underground railways or the like during braking operation of a vehicle, the invention proposes to connect to the live rail (1) a resistor arrangement (21) which is arranged in a housing (2) and can be connected by means of an electromagnetic switching device (5, 6; 16, 17), as a function of the voltage on the live rail. The resistor arrangement has at least one pure resistor (21). The invention can be used advantageously when vehicles with three-phase motors are used in the associated rail network, during whose operation disturbances often occur when the excess current produced during braking exceeds an upper limiting value. <IMAGE>
