PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for a breaker for turning on a capacitor, by employing another system to th auxiliary power source of a gate pulse amplifier and allowing gate control over a thyristor nearly simultaneously with voltage application to the thyristor. CONSTITUTION:The auxiliary power source of gate pulse amplifier 14 is provided with an insulating transformer 24 and an external AC power is supplied to its terminal 25. The output of the transformer 24 is converted by a rectifier 26 into a direct current, which after having an impulsive component removed by a smoothing circuit, is supplied to the gate pulse amplifier 14. The auxiliary power source of the gate pulse amplifier 14 uses a battery (including a solar battery), storage battery, or external AC power source, so the gate pulse amplifier 14 is placed in operation without reference to the operation of the thyristor or voltage application. Simultaneously with the starting of the thyristor, the gate control is performed to control the effective power-up capacity of a reactor 5 to a necessary value, and consequently the capacitor 4 may be powered up simultaneously with the operation of the thyristor 6. |
