To produce a multitrack recording of signals, in particular of video signals, on a permalloy (Ni18 Fe19) information carrier of a suitable multiple thin-film head unit, etching-resistant ridge-like covers are applied at given intervals by means of a mask to a silicon carrier strip which can be etched well. In the following etching operation, the intermediate areas are etched away down to a given depth. After detaching the ridge covers, a first insulation layer is vapour-deposited, onto this one electrical conductor layer is vapour-deposited, and finally a second insulation layer is vapour-deposited onto the latter. Subsequently, the metal carrier strip is etched away on its untreated side down to the first insulation layer. The electrically conducting layer is provided in the region of each ridge with an electrical terminal. <IMAGE>
