In a method for checking the characters or commands input by means of a keyboard of a writing or storage or actuating unit, particularly for blind persons, it is proposed that an acoustic check signal be allocated to each character or command. A corresponding device provides that the keyboard is associated with a signal transmitter and is functionally coupled to it and that this signal transmitter exhibits means for transmitting the signal to the human ear.
