Metallic sheath is removed from cable to recover conductors, by cutting a longitudinal groove in it with a milling cutter, and opening it out. The cylindrical cutter operates in a hole in a guide block, intersecting with, and perpendicular to, a second hole through which the cable is passed. This hole is adjustable to suit the cable diameter, and prevents it moving from side to side. The cutter is set to cut through the sheath, and pull the cable forward at the same time. Straightening rollers, before the guide block, are also adjustable to cable dia. and may be driven to help move it forward. This device can be used for long lengths of cable without clogging, and is adjustable to a wide range of diameters. Where multi-layer coverings are used, knives may be incorporated to cut, e.g. PVC, and extra milling cutters can be used if there is more than one metallic sheath. |
