<p>(A) Oligomer (I) is claimed: (where R is 6-15C arylene; x is 0 or 1; each A is independently H or Br with the proviso that when x is 1, >=6 of the A gps. are Br and when x is 0, all the A gps. are Br, n is 2-20, Z is O, S, SO or SO2). Pref. x is 1, all A gps. are Br and R is -m-C6H4- or -pC6H4C(Me)2-pC6H4- and Z is O. (B) Flame retardant resin compsn. consists of (a) thermoplastic film forming polymer and (b) 1-30 wt. % (based on blend) of oligomer (I) and (c) 1-15 wt. % (based on blend) of a metal oxide synergist that is compatible with the polymer. The flame retardant polymer compsn. has better stability towards thermal degradation than do resins contg. known brominated flame retardants. (I) do not migrate towards the surface of mouldings of the resin compsns.</p> |
