PURPOSE:To make bar graphs or characters to be displayed according to colors, which are selected and designated by voluntary signals, by providing phosphor layers corresponding to the three original colors of red, green and blue, and making the phosphor layer corresponding to an electrode discharged to emit light by being excited. CONSTITUTION:Constantly discharging starting electrodes are provided at ends of cathodes 15a, 15b...arranged in a straight line. When signal lines are given signals phi1, phi2 and phi3, the discharge atmospheres of the starting electrodes are transmitted to the cathodes 15a, 15b...in order, and the cathodes 15a, 15b... are constantly discharged and operated in order correspondingly to the signals phi1, phi2 and phi3. As a result, discharge atmospheres corresponding to electrode groups 12a, 12b...are maintained constantly. Therefore, by controlling signals R, G and B as well as a signal for an anode 19, a colored bar graph devided, for example, according to red, green and blue colors is displayed. |
