The invention relates to a method for continuously manufacturing wooden paving blocks ready for laying. The method is characterised in that planed profiled wooden bars are continuously sawn up into blocks, in that a predetermined number of individual blocks are lined up next to one another and joined together to form laying units by attaching lateral connecting elements, in that each laying unit is provided with slot-shaped longitudinal and transverse incisions on a face forming the subsequent underside, in that the upper side opposite the underside is sanded smooth, the upper side edges of each block are broken and a sealing protective agent is applied to the sanded upper side. To carry out the step for making slot-shaped longitudinal and transverse incisions in the underside of the wooden paving blocks, the invention comprises an apparatus which is characterised in that a saw shaft aligned transversely with respect to the passage direction of the laying unit carries a plurality of circular saw cutters protruding from the supporting surface of a conveying path leading through the longitudinal-slotting saw, in that a saw shaft aligned parallel to the conveying path leading through the transverse-slotting saw carries a set of circular saw blades projecting from a supporting surface of the transverse-slotting saw from below, in that a cyclically operating advancing pusher for the laying units is provided transversely with respect to the feed direction of the conveying path of the transverse-slotting saw, and in that a holding-down device is arranged above the supporting surface in a position approximately corresponding to the saw shaft. <IMAGE>
