A sensor for detecting physical processes in the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine is proposed, wherein at least one fibre-optic guide is provided which faces the combustion chamber and is arranged in a screwed housing preferably of the spark plug type and which is designed as a quartz glass rod (12) fitted on the combustion chamber side. A light-transmitting body (14) of high temperature-resistant material, preferably crystalline alpha -alumina, is placed in front of the quartz glass rod (12). <IMAGE>
